All on 4® Treatment: let’s dive into it!

Tooth loss is a widespread issue affecting a significant portion of the British and North American population. Its implications extend beyond mere aesthetics, profoundly affecting patients' quality of life. From compromised chewing ability to speech difficulties, tooth loss can present several challenges. Fortunately, innovative dental procedures like the All on 4® treatment offer hope for those grappling with toothless smiles.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the essence of All on 4®, its’ process and its’ benefits.

What is the All on 4® treatment?

MALO CLINIC is a pioneer of the All on 4® treatment concept® which allows the rehabilitation of edentulous patients by placing only four titanium dental implants in each jaw. What sets it apart from similar solutions is its ability to restore an entire arch without the need for multiple dental implants. Only four dental implants are required in each jaw to recover all teeth, eliminating the need for any bone grafting, even in cases of severe bone resorption.

This treatment involves placing a fixed prosthesis onto four dental implants, fulfilling all functions of natural dentition and enabling total rehabilitation in just one day. Patients obtain fixed teeth immediately after surgery.

What are the benefits of the All on 4® treatment?

Compared to traditional methods, the All on 4® technique boasts high success rates, scientifically proven to maintain dental implants for many years, if not a lifetime.
Some of the main advantages include:

  • Less invasive procedure: No bone grafting is required, even in cases of severe bone loss, resulting in a less invasive surgery, with fewer associated costs.
  • Natural dentition: The fixed prosthesis mimics natural dentition, being adapted and designed specifically for each patient.
  • Single surgery: The entire dentition is placed in just one surgery, supporting an immediate fixed prosthesis.
  • Faster process: Both the surgical procedure and prosthesis placement occur on the same day, allowing the patient to leave the clinic with a new dentition.
  • Easy maintenance: Oral hygiene habits similar to those for natural teeth are required to maintain the fixed prosthesis.

The All on 4® dental procedure represents a significant advancement in Oral Rehabilitation, offering a transformative solution for totally edentulous patients or with tooth loss. With its’ efficient process, immediate results, and remarkable benefits, it restores not only smiles but also confidence and quality of life.
Whether pursued locally or through dental tourism, the All on 4® continues to unlock smiles and provide hope for countless individuals worldwide.

How Does the All on 4® treatment work at MALO CLINIC?

  1. Book your online diagnosis
Through a fully remote pre-diagnosis process, we prioritize the convenience and comfort of our patients, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with personalised care.

The steps of this process include:

  • Assessing patients’ needs
  • Reviewing medication
  • Explaining the treatment plan
  • Conducting further exams if necessary
  • Discussing the treatment plan and associated costs
  1. Fly to Portugal
Following this, patients travel to Portugal for their first appointment at our clinic. During this visit we conduct a health status evaluation, explain the procedure, perform dental impressions and lab work and schedule oral hygiene appointments.
  1. Start your treatment
The second day marks a significant milestone in the patient’s dental journey, with the successful implementation of the MALO CLINIC Protocol – All on 4® and the delivery of their customized fixed prosthesis. This includes a surgical procedure, implant impression, post-operative procedures, prosthesis delivery with adjustments and patient handover.
  1. Follow-up and maintenance
Between 4 to 6 months later the patient will return to Portugal to replace the MALO CLINIC All-Acrylic Bridge with the Final Bridge, which combines high aesthetics with exceptional resistance.
This final prosthetic stage involves a comprehensive clinical and laboratory procedure, requiring a 5-day stay for the patient.

What is the recovery process like after surgery?

Before leaving, our medical team provides the patient with all the instructions necessary for effective post-operative and oral hygiene protocols. While patients can eat, speak and smile their perfect smile on the same day as the surgery, they must adhere to specific guidelines for optimal recovery:

  • Apply an ice bag covered with a towel in the surgical area during 15-minutes periods, followed by 10-minutes breaks, whenever possible, during the three days following the surgery.
  • Avoid gargling, spitting or making sucking movements during the first 24 hours post-surgery, due to the risk of triggering blood clot dislocation.
  • Follow the medication protocol.
  • Rest as much as possible.
  • Sleep with an additional pillow, keeping the head higher than the body, in order to reduce the edema.
  • Gargle with mouthwash and massage the gum with a toothbrush and gel twice a day.
  • Eat only soft, cold food during the first 3 days, gradually introducing harder and hotter foods.
  • Avoid sun exposure.
  • Not engage in any physical exercise or activities that require a head-down position during the postoperative period (7-10 days).
  • It is recommended that patients do not smoke or consume alcohol during the postoperative period.
  • Avoid hard and sticky foods such as bread, grilled meat and all types of nuts during the healing and integration period of the implants (4-6 months).
